BLOG CANDY!!!!

Okay.... so like, three months ago, I didn't even know what the heck blog candy was! I thought it was just pretty cards that people shared. My two B friends.... that's Bev and Beate, have been telling that I NEED to give blog candy. You know Beate is DA BOMB of the candy and the whole thing just kind freaks me out because I'm always scared no one will want whatever it is I find to give as "candy". BUT.... as I was looking through my drawers and trying to find things that weren't sent to me by my loving friends who take pity on me being craft store deprived, (because that stuff is MINE and special and never to be given away.. or maybe even ever used because it's just "special".... that is my excuse for hoarding.. just go with it), I found a 7 Gypsies bracelet that I bought from Starlitstudios, some ribbon I got from (I think) Jo-Anns, some pearly brads from Oriental Trading Co., some jeweled brads from my trip to Target in WI, some sparkly PINK chipboard shapes also from my visit to WI (that was my first trip to Archivers!!), some scrapbook charms and page pebble stickers!! Whew.... Now, I KNOW you'll at least want the bracelet because it's WAY cool. All you need is a 5/8 inch circle punch and you can put designer paper, photos, whatever you want in the bracelet. I have two and I LOVE them.

Now, I am not knowledgeable about hits and points and clicks or whatever it is, but I know that WAY more people have come to visit than I ever thought would want to visit. I know that you all make my days with your nice comments and emails and it's time for me to say thank you!! So, how about even if you don't want the candy, you pretend. LOL. Deal? And, just know I appreciate each comment and email greatly. I feel like my daughter when she gets a bag of hand me downs from her cousins.... she goes around all day saying "I'm SO lucky". Well, I feel SO lucky to have so many great friends and stampers who visit, comment, or just come to peek in. THANK YOU!!!

Now.. for the question. I'm such a dork.... we are painting the house. Well, I should say, my husband is painting the house. I am THE worst at picking those colors from those little chips. We got the living room done, and believe it or not, I think I'm going to like it. But... I (as in pick the paint) need to do the family room. So.. here is the question. What is your favorite color of interior paint for your living room, family room and hallways? Just leave me a comment and you'll have a chance to win. HA! I know.. not even stamp related. Told ya I am a dork. :)

I'll do the random picker thing on Sunday night and announce the winner on Monday, April 23rd. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

My favorite would be cottage cream with white trim.

Hey! I love new paint!! I am partial to red (deep not fire engine!) but I know that is not everyone's color!! Right now, it could change anytime :), my living room and halls are a kahki color. I really don't even know if that is spelled right. See I am a bigger dork than you are :)

I've always had lite colors around the house but I've made a change this year. I've got chocolate walls with deep beige (or lite chocolate) accent walls in the other main areas. Makes all the furniture & photos just pop!

I painted my interior something called candlewax -- a very pale white yellow shade. I love it! Warm but not yellowy, if you get my drift. However, we just had a bath painted "close to cocoa" -- not sure I like it but it is different!

Mine are boring white right now since I am only renting but when I get my "Barbie dream house" I will probably choose a fun bright color that makes you smile like an orangey or green, a little brighter than sage but not quite a kiwi.

In our house we left in California, I had painted our living room a gorgeous shade of light Certainly Celery (about half the saturation of CC) and it was the best. So nice and calm and soothing. And, since we had high-gloss hardwood floors, it didn't reflect the light from them which helped keep down the glare. When we prepped the house to sell, we painted our dining room entry and hall way a taupe color which I also liked, but not as much as the green.

Good luck!! Love the candy so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :-)

hmmm my dh has been busy the past few weeks painting the outside of our house, that is a tan color and blue. For inside, I think creamish walls are always safe, my lounge is cream, green & burgundy - a friend of mine suggested the colors some years back based on our furniture/accessories and I love it

Unknown said...

all of our walls are painted very light colors as in from the brochure with the "whites". Downstairs is mostly blue with some walls that are egg shell (you know - white but not quite). Upstairs - purple-pinky in the bedrooms; the office has the same blue as downstairs. The bathrooms are all the egg shell white-ish color. I was still recouperating from living in my parent's 70's browns and oranges when we picked the colors for our house.

My suggestion - send a picture of the furniture to that special group of friends that you have. I know one of them has a degree in design plus many of the others have good color sense.

I can't remember the brand name but the color is called Peony.

My Family room is painted in Mustard on three walls with a very tall focal wall in Peanut Butter! Colors are from JC Licht. Very warm and rustic looking!
Something lighter...
My Sister's home is with this gorgeous Ralph Lauren Faux Suede Paint in Celery.

I am a deep color person with all white wood work. I have a deep cranberry red kitchn (with white trim), navy blue bathroom (with white trim), a bright yellow scrap room with..you guessed it white trim! Love the dark colors against white! LOVE your blog!!

I love shades of green, and have been wanting to change my living room color to a shade like sage. GREAT blog candy thanks for sharing all your inspirational creations.

I love the colors in our living room. We have a chair rail and above the rail is a tanish color and below the rail is a maroon color. They look very rich together and calming. Also it is very easy to coordinate other colors with them. I use blue to set them off.
Congrats on a great blog.

My daughters and I did a wooly roller technique of 2 shades of tan. So pretty and hides imperfections in the walls & future finger smudges.

So, I am a bit daring when it comes to paint. In my previous houses (we still haven't had the chance to paint this living room yet, but plan to paint it a warm orange, orange on the brown side, not bright orange)I had an eggplant purple living room, the carpet was near white and all white trim, also had high ceilings and was open to the kitchen. In our last house it was red. I was so excited when we got the house b/c it was already red and from what I'm told red is not a fun color to paint b/c it can take lots and lots of coats.

But if you want to go light I would go either a warm, golden, yellowish tan or a khaki color.

Good luck, you'll have to post a picture once it's painted!

I agree with the commenter that said to show your friends pictures of your furniture. If you want to try a color out, our Home Depot (and most other paint places I'm sure) sells a "try it out" size (kind of like the MM acryilic paints) that will cover a 2x2 spot on your wall. We did that with the outside of our house because that was a big commitment! Can't wait to hear what you decide. Love your blog.

I am really loving the chocolate browns...if you watch any decorating shows this seems to be the in colour...and for a dining room the dark colour would make for a very intimate setting...love your blog..thanks for sharing your gifts...

Hey Cambria

I love tan colored walls, easy to add other colors too. Our walls are a color called kilm beige from the friendly sherwin williams. I wanted to go with the shade darker called latte but it was hard enough to convince DH to go with the color we did.

I had a friend who took in SU card stock to home depot (almost amethyst) for her guest bedroom. The paint color was exactly the same, it looked great. She then used the color wheel to match pillows and a comforter to the bed.

good luck in your quest!!

Sherman Williams Wild Bamboo with the trim in Paper Moon. They are both pale yellows from the same paint strip, the Paper Moon is almost white. I love it and recommend it all the time. Hope they still make it, we painted in 2000!
Best of luck and thanks for the candy!

I love khaki for a wall color. It gives your walls substance, but is still considered a neutral. Thanks for the great blog - I just found you recently!

I hate painting too. It seems we do it often because we move a lot. We just got done painting a year ago. I love earth tones. Sage green is one of my favs. and I also like to mix two different brown tones on a roller. It gives your wall a leather like look. Very cool. Good luck let us know what you pick.

I love browns-- we have a very pretty tan color in our living roon and hallway/ with white trim on windows. You need to pick up the brochure for Behr White and Neutral collection --the colors are all soooo yummy! The website is awesome too- you can create a room and pick out colors and see how they look together!

Maybe pick a neutral tan color and you can use pillows, curtains, vases, etc to accent with color! I would do an ultra white trim.

Fun candy and good luck with color choices -- it's hard to choose!!

That's some pretty cool candy if I do say so myself! We seem to really love faux finishes which of course are the most challenging to paint but the results are out of this world! In our dining room we have a granite finish...think very deep charcoal in a heavy sandpaper type finish with little flecks of gold sparkles. Very deep but very beautiful. In our living room we ahave a rich brown faux suede finish which is also very nice an din our family room we have a metallic finish, the color is kind of an adobe color with a shiny finish??? Maybe I am not explainig them well but they really are nice looking, I swear! So be BOLD! It's only paint...

That is AWESOME blog candy! I am also terrible at picking paint. About a year ago we moved into the house we had built (ie, blank canvas). For every room I wanted to paint, I took a picture that I would be hanging in that room and chose a color from it. I mean, literally took the picure to Sherwin Williams and sat down with all the paint chips for hours. My living room is a brown/green, kinda like True Thyme, with white trim.

Emily said...

I really like your blog candy - no pretending here! For interior walls I like a nice light neutral (like a light beige, cream, etc.) paired with a wonderfully bright accent wall - dark red, mustard yellow, something dramatic. Good luck!

I want to paint my bedroom chocolate with an accent wall of sage.

My favorite paint color is in my walkout basement family room. It is Sky White. Definitely blue but it changes intensity with the amount of sun. My bedroom is similar to Marigold Morning; I love that room too! Very warm and cozy.

We have a cream base with a slight yellow tint throughout our whole house and it is a smashing combo with dark wood and floors. So I'm partial to a neutral with a yellowish tint!

Your blog is awesome - blog candy or not!!
As for the paint - why not look to your stamp room for inspiration!! What color do you find you reach for the most, or color family? Mine is the soft subtles, with chocolate accents - so I am planning on painting my kitchen Mellow Moss, only less saturated, but not as bright as celery! Pick your favorite, then monkey around with the saturation! Any good paint store should be able to custom mix it for you!! Good luck!

My walls are getting painted this summer and they will be a creamy beige and a Pale green. not easter pale green but a thyme/sage kind. My living room is a dark terracotta with a tan accent wall.

Love your stuff! I stop by daily but do not always leave a comment. Trying to scrunch in time to view all you great bloggers!

Wow, Awesome blog candy. We recently painted our living room red. At first I thought it was a bit much, I was so used to boring white. Now I LOVE it, and so does everyone who comes over. I have a very large living room so it doesn't make it look small. Good luck picking a color!

Trish Wallace said...

I guess I'm rather boring in my paint choice because I LOVE to accent with other colors. We have a lot of sage green as accents, so we painted our walls a Frazee paint called "something Kahaki"...I love it because it goes with so much, looks great with our white woodwork and makes rooms look larger. Good luck!!

I love sage green with white trim! So relaxing! : )

Your candy is awesome, like your cards.

And do you know why stampers are like fudge? Mostly sweet, with a few nuts. LOL! :)

LOL you crack me up!

My paint faves change frequently but right now I'm into deep shades of red, burgundy and rust (with crisp white or cream trim), and sea blues.

For a Family Room I would go with something that would highlight pictures of your family. Although warm mochas are always popular I can tell you love bright colors so I'd say "Go For It!" Love your site can't start my day without taking a peak.

Donna Baker said...

are you kidding?! That's awesome blog candy! Of course your blog is successful, you're awesome!!! I would see what the majority of colors are of your decor. If that doesnt' strike up a color - something neutral in any sage color or saffron color is always nice. I like those colors. One thing we did when trying to decide to paint our bedroom was take one item for the inspiration (focal point) it was a different shades of purple rug we got in Santa Fe (purple is my fave color) and we took it to the store with us to pick the colors. We did a lighter purple on top darker than pale plum & did a perfect plum on the bottom with a faux chair rail in white. It turned out real nice. Hope that helps - I think I just rambled on.

Melissa said...

My vote is for a taupey-caramel color. We had it at our last home and it was amazing how much more warm and inviting things felt once the painting was done. Or you can choose a piece of favorite card stock and go and have it color matched! :) Good luck!

We painted our living room/dining room/upper hall/front entryway last summer and I am in love. The living room/dining room (one big room) is done in a colour called "dirt"... yup, it's dark brown! The rest of it is a yellowy brown colour. We call them chocolate and peanut butter.

The colours are so warm and cozy... absolutely love it!

Anonymous said...

We did our walls a neutral brownish beige with one accent wall done in a faux suede rust color. Hey at least with neutral colors you can spice it up with other stuff. Awesome blog candy.

Toni said...

Boring, I know but I'd go with a taupe color. Goes with everything!

Melissa K. said...

We did our living room last year in a dark red (think Cranberry Crisp-ish) on two walls with khaki and "Wendy's frosty" as our brown accent walls. It was scary painting the dark red, but it's really dramatic and cozy, too.

And thanks for the chance at candy!! :)

I have a cottage house and I wanted to paint my living room a warm beige/gold. Husband said it would make the room look smaller. I went to store bought 4 small cans of paint, put all 4 colors as a sample on the wall. One was called sweet potato, *yes orange*. Anyway he walked in and saw them and said oh I like that one. It was the beige/gold color called Biscuit, looks the the top of a biscuit. He thinks it was his idea!

I like neutrals for hallways, but I love eggshell blue (just the slightest hint of blue) for a living room, dining room, etc. It brings out any blue that you put on the walls (we have a lot since it is my favorite color!) By the way, I first tuned into your blog because you're in Oregon (yeah!) but you're on my daily favorites for your fresh and fun ideas. I just love seeing your creativity and appreciate the work you do keeping up a blog so that you can share with us. Thank you!!!

The blog candy is GREAT! - We had eggshell paint on our living room walls for so long it wasn't even funny...then we painted last year and now it's a wonderful soft teal green with one wall being a darker shade. Very cool & calming. Have fun picking out your colors. Ida

Hi Cambria,
I'm an interior designer, and I always tell clients that are nervous about picking paint colors to go look in their closet. The dominant color of clothing you wear is the one you're most comfortable with; ideal for a family room. As for trim, I'm a bit of a purist, and usually go with an off white. Don't forget to paint the ceiling a color other than white... it's the biggest mistake I see people make!

Anonymous said...

I also have a hard time picking colors for paint. I have rooms thst need painting and I just don't know what to pick. Good luck with your rooms.

Anonymous said...

Hello Cambria,

We are currently building a new home and have just finished the painting. I love Debbie travis' Coastal Walk i used it in the kitchen, our master bedroom, closet and bath. It is a nice calming color, and with the off white trim and baseboards it will look really nice. I am not a color person, so picking the paints was so hard! I am so happy with the results.

believe it or not, I like more "neutral" colors ... like a warm beige or tan. Then you can add color with accessories and change the look without painting! Also -- these reflect light well.. making rooms seem brighter and bigger.

If you gotta have color, I like a light blue with a touch of purple in it... just to throw it toward the periwinkle side :)

Thanks for the chance at blog candy. Hope I win!

Allison Rankin said...

Cambria you are too funny...

Ours is a yellow with a green undertone. Sounds yucky but with all the darker woods (esp. since we have an open layout into the kitchen), it gives it a major pop!

We painted our hallways a light tan and then the wall of our fireplace is painted a dark maroon, an off set color to the tan. I like it a lot although the red was a PIA to paint!

Good luck with picking!

My FAVE right now is Carolina Parakeet by Behr(home depot) It's a Green Galore kind of green that is in my laundry/hallway as I enter my house from the side/driveway door. It's so bright and cheery everytime I walk in!!

Oh, I am a color person. My living room/dining room...which we call the art room...is a lovely shade of yellow. Lamplight by Behr. Our hallways and 2 story foyer is called Still Lake by Behr too. It's a lovely blueish color that sometimes has grey in it and somtimes a green, depending on the light. Which is always changing due to the season and time of day. I just love those 2 colors! But the yellow is so sunny. Very close to the master bedroom color: Early Sun by Behr. How do I know these names and brands. I have a sprial notebook where I staple color and fabric swatches to. It's very helpful! Good luck on your choices! Go for color! (Skip the drab blah nothingness of neutral.)

Cami - I've visited your blog from the start, but I've been your fan at SCS for a while now (no, I'm not a stalker!). Anyways, favorite inside color: lite sahara sand (coordinates with LOTS of other colors. Outside color (I know, you didn't ask): Vanilla (think butter pecan ice cream). Your candy is wonderful, and generous and I'd LOVE to get my hands on that ribbon. TFS

Hey Cami,
My fav paint color for the living/dining area is a pale green kind of like Certaily Celery of amybe even something like Mellow Moss. They give a beautiful hint of color, but are fairly neutral whaen you want to add some other colors around the room. Blog cany looks super yummy. I love the bracelet and I am bummed I missed the whole meeting thing when you showed them to us. Oh well, the baby was pretty darned awesome too.

I enjoy your blog with or without candy. I'm in the same situation as you and am currently renovating my upstairs. I even had to move my stamps & toys downstairs in the kitchen while the renovations are taking place. (I am so not having any luck being creative in the kitchen). Once the upstairs is done, I'll be doing the main floor. The colors I am going with for the livingroom is shades of rust, green and beige. I just love that color combo.

I'm one that does not like all the walls in a room to be one color. I like to have at least one wall a color that picks up from my furnishings. I really like the color green ... something in the tone of Always Artichoke. I find green to be very calming and relaxing. Really enjoy your blog and am always blown away with your creativity!. The blog candy looks awesome!

You're giving GREAT blog candy! :) As far as paint colors, I don't like white walls at all, so our house has color in each room. Our living room would remind you of pumpkin pie. . .the top part of the wall is a mustard color and the bottom (separated by a wooden chair rail)is a rust color. Our furniture is cream-colored leather and our wood floors are dark brown, like the chair rail. I always feel cozy in that room. Our hallway is much brighter though in a "So Saffron" like color and our dining room in a pale green (maybe Mellow Moss-like). I like all different colors so our rooms are all different. Don't know if that helped any! :)

I just painted my family room. Since we have three small kids we used a tecnique on the walls. I don't remember what it was called but you mixed two simular colors mixed with glaze(one on either side of your paint tray) then dip your roller in the tray same way each time and roll randomly on to your walls. This really hides flaws and marks my kids have made. We have a feature wall that is blue and used two shades of light grey on the other walls. It looks wonderful. Good luck to you!

Cambria.... I didn't even know you had a blog until I found you today! Not that you know who I am, but I am an admirer from SCS. Anyway...my fav color is a khaki. It goes with everything. A moss green is pretty too. My hubby and I do a cool technique faux finish and everyone loves it. Not sure what it's called but he paints one color and then we choose either a couple of shades lighter or darker for the next coat (add a little glaze) and then he puts it on in an "x" motion while I go behind him with old t-shirts and dab some of the paint off. You will love this technique if you try it and it's hard to mess up. Sorry for the long post...LOL.

Our living/family room is chocolate with white trim and black wood furniture. It has been since 2003 after we had a house fire and I still LOVE it! our hallways are white cause they are the only thing I couldn't decide on for color. I like the white I think so it stays light and no one trips, ok so I don't trip over anything that may be in the hallway. lol !

MY SISTER-IN-LAW PAINTED THERE LIVING ROOM LIKE AN OLIVE GREEN IT'S ACTUALLY REALLY NICE WITH THEIR FURNITURE.

Andrea said...

Right now I have an olivey green with cream trim. Sounds kind of nasty on paper, but it is very warm and inviting. We have a fair amount of wood which offsets the green nicely. I have had beige before and although it is very easy to coordinate it is pretty bland. If you aren't quite ready to go all the way (ie: red room) try painting one wall differently.

All the colors on our first floor are rich colors (think Earth Elements) but upstairs is a whole different story. We have two little girls and it looks like the Easter Bunny threw up up there -- pinks, purples and yellows.

My favorite color is sage green. It is a beautiful with cream trim and almost anything you put with it. I also like beautiful warm brown shades. I love Sherwin williams colors and paint very washable and excellent quality paint. Good luck Cambria on your painting and would love to see a photo when it is finished! Thanks for such great blog candy too! Love to visit your site daily, your love of stamping and friends makes my day!

I think you should paint them green, like the envelopes you found at Target!! LOL!!

Seriously, I am partial to neutrals. I want to be able to change out the accessories in a room without having to redo the paint. I feel like I have more freedom this way. HTH

Great blog & always great ideas! As for the colors, I would say it depends on your trim & your furniture! Our house is neutrally done on the walls, a light brown, to go with the carpet and oak trim and furniture. I do like that anything goes with it and I could totally change the look by changing the accents and not having to paint!

Anonymous said...

In our previous home we put in wonderful wood floors and went with neutral colors - for interior walls I like a nice light neutral (like a light beige, cream, etc.) paired with a wonderfully bright accent wall - ours was an incredible mustard yellow in the "formal" living room and then a more muted similar shade in the family room - loved it and hated to leave it - but the buyers had a real problem with me taking the walls and the floor LOL.

Good luck!

Painting is a lot of fun, except for the smell of course. I think I would have to say that the family room should be a shade of blue with the hallway in a tan. So many colors to choose from the choices are so hard to make!

My favorite color for interior paint is green! In varying shades of course. Most of my house is shades of green - it looks good if I do say so myself.

Sherwin Williams everclean paint in satin or flat. My fav coloris irish cream. This paint is worth every penny, covers like a dream and wipes clean effortlessly with spray cleaner. its neutral enough to go with all types of furniture! I prefer light and bright, but if its just a little to dark-- have them mix it at 80%.

good luck! jill031070 (SCS)

I love my LR/DR/Kitch-hall. The Kitch-hall are a creamy carmel color with some mustard mixed in to darken it a bit. The DR is bravo burgandy and the LR base is the same as the Kitch-hall but it has a bravo burgandy and choc chip swirly wash on it. It is so warm cozy and friendly I can't imagine having anything else ever!!!

Well I have not ever painted a wall in my house...so I may not be the best one to pick but I love warm colors....I was at a home yesterday for a bunko game and her walls were a beautiful warm creamy green color....lets see maybe it was a bright moss color anyway it was nice but I am would probably go with a tan/kahki color so it would go with everything!

We just moved into our dream home and the whole house we did in a snip of tannin with swiss mouse trim all paint by kelly moore paints. the paint is a tan and the trim a white white, the contrast is beautiful and makes the whole house POP..

Ok, I'm an SU! dork, so I'll be using SU! colors. I love my barely banana bathroom. The soft yellow is so cheery & always wakes me up! I want to paint our living room a soft green - something between mellow moss & certainly celery.

On a personal note, how are ya' doin'?

Picking a color can be sooo challenging. I did it a new way this last time. I bought "sample" cans from my local paint store. I painted a small portion near my furniture to see how everything flowed. I ended up going with a dark peachy color for the accent wall and a light latte coffee color for the main walls. My peachy color can be seen in my SCS gallery in my stamping space pics.

Good luck!

P.S. Great blog candy!

Hey Cami -- don't enter me in the drawing but I just wanted to let you know how much I love your schtuff and your blog! I always check it when you post anything new.

I'm pretty boring when it comes to house interiors and prefer a neutral backdrop to let the furnishing shine thru. If I weren't renting right now, either, I'd do a taupy (kinda dark beige) wall with cream trim. Most of the new houses these days are that color (at least here in Texas)!

Have a great weekend -- can't wait to meet you in person next weekend . . . yay!

Laura said...

As far as a non-masculine, non-feminine color that works well with most color furniture, I've always loved the Rust Orange/Terracotta color. It looks with dark and light wood so whatever trim you have works with it. It also goes great with many different colored couches/furniture/throw pillows, dark brown, red, off-white, celery, mustard, taupe... (I could go on and on.

Hi Cambria! I like a warm colour for the family room so it's cozy and inviting as we spend so much time there. My living room is done in a Sear's paint called linen....it is between light kakai and cream....goes with everything...I like to change curtain colors to darker in winter which makes the room feel warmer and then in spring I add a light blue drape....
The neatest trick I learned about painting a room when you are not good at visualization is to get the large poster board sheets in white and paint them with the color or colors you are considering...move the board around the room every couple days for a week ...see what the color looks like in bright sun or evening lamplight and everything inbetween...you can also move the poster board behind funiture or close to cabinetry to see what the items you own will look like with the color.....

Our living room is a buttery ivory. It's a great neutral, yet still warm in the evening. Plus I can easily change my furniture and not have to paint too often.. as if my hubby would ever buy new furniture! teehee!

I also felt color challenged when it came to my house. After a fire, started by a plugged in, but turned off embossing gun, I had to choose new colors. Sage green for the kitchen, buttercream for the livingroom, kahki for an extra bedroom, deep lavender for the bath. I love it. I've been living with it for 3 years now and have not yet gotten tired of it. Looking at the clothes you wear or the colors you like to stamp with may help. I don't wear lavender or buttercream yellow, but I do wear the colors that the rooms were accessorised in. I got sage green paint chips from every brand of paint I could find and then I chose the one I liked the best. It was the richest color. It really helped to have all the chips.

I just went to a deep brown. Love it! I can get you the exact color if you would like. it really changes in the light/dark.

I painted my living room with a Martha Stewart maroon color, then sponged a light tan over it. Really cool effect and easy to do... It tones down the maroon to a more neutral color. Everyone that's been to my house has commented on it *fortunately all nice things* and my neighbor even wanted to pay me to paint hers the same colors/technique. I tend to stick with browns and tans for the rest of the house.

When I moved in this house almost 5 years ago, everything was ivory...left all the woodwork ivory, painted living & dining rooms something called Copper-ridge which is a terra cotta shade, did the hall and one wall of dining room (french doors opening into the sunroom) the next shade lighter - get lots of compliments. Kitchen opening off the dining room is wallpaper in an ivory tone with terra cotta tone lines in it that create a plaid, & pear border above the cupboards. I love it. Was a little leary of the darker tones, but I have 3 large windows in the living room & lots of light coming in here on the coast.

Hey..I just this week finished a 3 month renovation of the kitchen, bathroom and entrance...so i right there with you. Picking that colour is nerve wracking (is that how you spell that? LOL). Before we were in the yellow/tuscany colours. Loved them but it was time for a change. I went with Ralph Lauren soft gray with white ceilings & kitchen cupboards and black slate floors. Love it Love it Love it!!! However..a word of warning...black floors show EVERY piece of dust and stuff...so even though I love them I would not put them down again ... I think.
So I am "Going Gray" with "Basic Black" lol. It makes for a beautiful neutral backdrop for accent colours.

Wow, I can see these posts are not going to help you choose, lol. We all have such different taste. I for one love rich dark colors on my walls. Although it is a pain in the you know what when you want to change color! I love the chocolates and dark shades of blue and green. I remember the first time I said "that is it! No more white or cream walls! " My husband almost died when he came home to a dark green bathroom wall with even darker ceiling. It looks beautiful with lighter purples and blues. I think you should find curtains or a border you really like the colors of and then go from there. Even if you don't use the border on the wall just look at them for colors. Just an idea. How fun to be painting your home!
