Square Steps Corner Punch Frame

This is one of the cards we did this weekend with my hostess club. Another great idea from SUDSOL, created by the brilliant Diane. (she had a GREAT blog... click on her name). I just took the pattern and tweaked it a bit. I did four different designs all starting with the same basic pattern. This is super easy to do and it's kinda cool for little images or even more punches... you know how I LOVE my punches!

Take a piece of card stock or designer paper, here I used a 2x2 piece of Designer paper from the Palette O' Prints. Use the Square Steps Corner punch on each corner making sure that the punch is pushed all the way in each time. Then, gently just flip the corners out.

On this card, I layered two square pieces of card stock with the 1 3/8 and 1 1/4 inch square punches and placed them in the center with two of the flaps under and two over. The colors are actually certainly celery and rose red to match the designer paper on the card.

This photo shows what the front and back look like... you can see both make a really cool pattern.

Place your layered squares in the center over two flaps, then slide your piece under the ribbon on your card, then fold the top layers. I put a little glue under the top flap and wait until I have that whole piece centered before I glue it on the card to glue the last flap.

Add two dimensionals on your top layer ( 1 3/8 and 1 1/4 inch circle punches)and center it on the front. This gives it a really nice layered look.

Okay, this one of the four. This next one is just the same side, with no squares in the middle, just circle layer over the front. Still nice. More of the lattice part shows. (The cllose up white flower, green lattice below)

The next one below is the same square from the back instead of the front with a piece of card stock (and ribbon on the card sample) ran through the center. The bottom is a piece of rose red card stock with the plastic guide taken off the punch and punched over and over next to each other. It's hard to see in the photo. (Along the very bottom of the card)

Cut your strip that goes through the center at 7/8.

This photo shows the opposite side once your strip is through the middle. I also added ribbon to the card sample in the photo.

Here are two cards I made with the new
Palette O' Prints and Petals & Paisleys Designer paper.

Okay... so don't look too close. I did not use my
stamp-a-ma-jig (and I KNOW better too). Not sure about that ribbon in the center either, but I don't have time to stamp today, and I wanted to show you. Pretend the sentiment is straight okay? I LOVE the All In A Row stamp set, and I need to use it more, but I really can't get them straight without my wonderful stamp-a-ma-jig. Where did that clear sheet disappear to? I just had it.......

For this version, place your square image in the center of the lattice side (not the X side) and then take your bone folder and carefully fold over the little lattice tabs. On the first card, I did double layers. The first one is a slide frame, (cut your card stock 7/8 of an inch and it will slide in through the middle), but I used the opposite side that the previous card I showed you. Then, you make another frame, fold over the flaps and center it over the top.

Here is a close up of both frames. You can click on the photo to see a bigger version. The stamps sets used were
Polka Dots and Petals and A Tree for All Seasons.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments. I LOVE seeing everyone's ideas and versions. My new 2nd downline Nancy Littrell did one with the Wrought Iron punch too. Click on her name to check em out baby. Have I told you how much I LOVE punches? LOL.

Okay... off to get my groceries put away and get some dinner going for the gang. Hope you all had a great day! Thanks for stopping by!!

Cami - I might just have to stop loving you for a little while cause I'm pretty sure I don't have that punch... or do I??? Maybe, I'd better spend some time excavating my stamping space tomorrow. Who knows what might be buried up there.

Wow Cami-- I love, love, love the this punch and thought I was pretty clever when I posted the square steps corner medallion tutorial on my blog (which I guess Paula shared with the Sudsol group --I did't even know that!), but you sure took it to a higher level!

I love the way you made the insert with the two coordinating punched squares and the strip of card stock woven through looks awesome! I was going to share ways to use the square steps corner punch at a demo meeting this evening -- thanks so much for giving me even more ideas!
